Wow! Our last article “Does Raunchy Really Sell” really got all types of people talking, especially consumers with families and children. In a day and age where Paris Hilton is everywhere and everyone has a sex tape, where do we draw the line on sex in advertising?
- According to a popular advertising/marketing firm study, after 50 years of testing advertising effectiveness, it has found the use of the erotic to be a significantly above-average technique in communicating with the marketplace.
- Some retailers have gone so far as to use underage models and girls to promote “sex” and “innocence” in relation to the product they are selling. Because of this, the ad campaigns were withdrawn and child pornography investigations were done.
- At the end of the day, these companies just want to make money, but at what cost? Showing sex, exploitation of children and depicting females in an objective way to sell a shirt or perfume is sending negative messages to children that could actually be doing harm to them.
We ALL love fashion and want to look our best (especcially if you are reading our blog!), but maybe it’s time to support and find companies who value natural beauty over sex and represent a true love of fashion and style not porn.
